Tips For Wearing Regalia

  • Wear tassels on the right side.
  • Remove academic caps during the posting of the colors and national anthem.
  • Wear your stoles, sashes, and cords underneath the crimson and grey University yoke. Pull the yoke up snug to your throat (no sagging or gaping. To adjust, reach around to the back and pull the end of the yoke downward.

Honor Cords

Undergraduates earning a 3.5 or higher GPA are recognized as honor students and will receive a custom WSU honor cord in crimson and silver.

To ensure timely recognition, honors are calculated based on your GPA at the end of the previous Fall semester. This allows cords to be mailed ahead of the commencement ceremony.

After the final semester, the registrar will recalculate GPAs to determine official graduation honors, which will be noted on your diploma.

  • In-person participants: Honor cords will be provided at commencement check-in.
  • Virtual participants: Honor cords will be mailed several weeks before the ceremony.

If you have questions, please contact global.commencement@wsu.edu.

Student Involvement Cords

Students who actively participate in a Global Campus club or organization and attend at least six meetings or events in a semester are eligible to receive a cord to wear with their regalia. To learn more about student involvement graduation cords, visit the WSU Global Connections website.
