Scholarship Application Deadline is Jan. 31. Applications for Fall 2025-Summer 2026 are still open.

  • Financial aid is generally split between fall and spring semesters. If a student starts spring, they will receive a semester worth of eligibility for spring only.  Summer is a separate financial aid award.
  • Students need to accept loans, grants are automatically accepted for students.
  • Full time students and part time students who are only receiving loans, will have aid disburse a week before classes start. Students who are part time at disbursement with grants, will receive their funding after the 10th day of classes so their grants can be prorated or adjusted to reflect their actual enrollment.
  • Financial aid automatically goes to pay off tuition and fees first.
  • Students are encouraged to set up Direct Deposit and to Grant Permissions.
  • Refunds are sent out after tuition has been paid. If you are adding and dropping classes while financial aid is disbursing, or after financial aid has disbursed, it will be important to monitor your account.
  • Financial aid only pays for one semester at a time. Previous semester charges, students are responsible for paying.

You may be wondering, “Why are there two deadlines?” The first deadline allows you to meet the deadline to be considered for all WSU scholarships. The second deadline applies specifically to WSU Global scholarships. To maximize your opportunities, you should apply by January 31st.

Lifetime Limits

The lifetime aid summary tool is available for current students and alumni of WSU. The lifetime aid summary will allow students to view their current loan amounts, their federal loan limit, remaining loan eligibility, estimated monthly payments and their current Pell usage.

  • Log into myWSU
  • Click on the financial aid tile.
  • Once you have selected a Federal Aid Year, click on the drop-down menu on the right side of display.
  • Click on “Lifetime Aid Summary”

Students can run out of financial aid depending on how much they borrow and how long they are in school. The financial aid office is always available to chat with students to determine how much aid they have remaining.

Satisfactory Academic Progress

When you accept financial aid, you accept responsibility for making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). This progress is based on the number of credits you complete, your cumulative GPA, and the total number of credits you have attempted at WSU or at another institution.

Please note: Academic Reinstatement to the university is not the same as Reinstatement of Financial Aid. If you have been reinstated after academic dismissal due to Rule 39, may need to file a SAP Appeal in order to receive financial aid.

More information about SAP requirements can be found at the office of WSU Student Financial Services and the SAP Handbook. Before dropping a course, always check with your advisor and financial aid.

WSU’s net-price calculator can help determine the estimated net price, e.g. cost of attendance minus media grant/scholarship aid, that a full time, first degree seeking undergraduate Coug will pay to attend WSU.

Summer Session

Summer session’s financial aid is processed separately from other terms. These steps can help determine whether financial aid is an affordable option for you:

  • Complete your financial aid application
  • Meet with financial aid
  • Enroll in courses
  • Wait for you financial aid offer
  • Make a budget

Many factors go into determining what financial aid is available in the summer. Yearly limits, lifetime limits, and number of credits may all play a part in determine offers. Learn more about financial aid for summer session.

Part-time enrollment

Financial aid is available to part-time students, including loans and grants.

Many grants are prorated based on enrollment. Research your grant and scholarship’s eligibility requirements for enrollment BEFORE you enroll as a part-time student.

For the academic year, students must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible for federal loans.

  • Undergraduate students:  6 credits per semester
  • Graduate students: generally, 5 credits per semester

It is important to note that if you are part time, and receiving grants, your financial aid will not disburse until after 10th day of courses.  The Census Date is the point at which your enrollment is locked for financial aid purposes.
