Academic Deficiency and Reinstatement

Washington State University expects students to make satisfactory academic progress toward their degree objectives. Undergraduate students are in good academic standing if both their current WSU semester and cumulative grade point averages are at least 2.00. (Please note that a higher GPA may be required for certification or graduation.) Students not meeting these requirements are considered academically deficient and will need to apply for reinstatement for continued enrollment.

Please email online@wsu.edu if you have any questions.

If you have been away from WSU for two full semesters (Fall and Spring) and need reinstatement, you will need to reapply to return to WSU first. You will complete reinstatement as part of that process if it’s required.

If you plan to attend Pullman, Spokane, Tri-Cities, Everett, or Vancouver, please select the application for your campus on the WSU Reinstatement website.

Please email online@wsu.edu if you have any questions.

If you are in process of reapplying for admission to WSU your reinstatement application is located on your FutureCoug application portal

Who needs to apply for reinstatement?

  • Current students who are currently in Suspended status or Dismissed status do not qualify for a standard reinstatement process but may request an appeal if extenuating circumstances impacted their academic performance.
  • Returning academically deficient students who were academically deficient, dismissed, or recessed before leaving WSU.
