WSU Global Campus Offers Four New Degree Programs

By Jeff Willadsen, Global Campus Senior Writer

Washington State University Global Campus is continuously working to ensure that online students around the world have access to a wide array of quality higher education opportunities and degree programs. In alignment with this goal, WSU Global Campus has announced the addition of four new undergraduate degrees to its diverse selection of high-demand degree programs.

“We’re very excited to provide these new, exciting degree programs for our online students around the world,” said Joy Thompson, WSU Global Campus assistant director of student services. “By offering more focused degree options from WSU’s College of Arts and Sciences, we’re opening up more doors for students, helping them to better achieve their academic and career goals.”

The new degree programs—all offered 100% online—are available starting in the 2019 Fall Semester and include bachelor’s degrees in Anthropology, Biology, English, and Political Science.

Anthropology

Global Campus’ new Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology program immerses online students in the fascinating field of anthropology—the study of human life, both past and present. Anthropology students will address fundamental questions about human nature and origins as they study the interactions between our biological heritage and learned cultural heritages. The program provides courses in multiple anthropological subfields, with a particular emphasis on cultural anthropology.

WSU anthropology students and faculty have published ground-breaking research that has received a national spotlight, including the discovery of an ancient tattooing implement and the uncovering of new evidence of tobacco use by Native American tribes, among other contributions. Online students now have the opportunity to be a part of this thriving and renowned anthropology community.

Biology

The new Bachelor of Science in Biology degree completion program combines transferred courses with WSU Global Campus courses to instill a broad base of knowledge in the biological sciences. Global Campus courses, delivered 100% online, cover a wide array of biological subjects including molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, taxonomy, ecology, plant and animal physiology, and human anatomy.

This program prepares online students advance their current careers or pursue employment in medical support professions, wildlife-related careers, and other jobs requiring biological expertise. The degree can also be a stepping stone to graduate education in biology, including WSU’s Professional Science Master’s in Molecular Biosciences, also offered online.

English

The new Bachelor of Arts in English degree is unique from many English degree programs, as it specializes in rhetoric and professional writing. The course of study focuses on developing applied writing and editing skills that are vital in any workplace. The program also emphasizes the ability to write effectively and persuasively in professional settings and communicate technical or complex subject matter to any audience.

Students may also choose to integrate the Professional Writing Certificate or the Professional Science and Technology Writing Certificate—both offered 100% online—into their program of study to further solidify their professional writing credentials and enhance their resume.

Political Science

Global Campus’ new Bachelor of Arts in Political Science degree encourages students to explore political ideas, policies, processes and behavior from a domestic, international and comparative perspective. The program of study focuses on problem-driven research that confronts both traditional and emerging public policy challenges in the United States and across the globe. Student will engage with a wide variety of thought-provoking subjects, including political psychology, global security and justice, environmental policy, American government, political theory, and more

Online political science students can also gain valuable hands-on experience through internship opportunities coordinated by WSU’s prestigious Thomas S. Foley Institute for Public Policy and Public Service.
