Washington State University Global Campus inducted the first five members of its Society of Distinguished Alumni during a ceremony at the Nov. 12 WSU – Arizona State football game. The Society of Distinguished Alumni was created for Global Campus’ 30th Anniversary to pay tribute to the accomplishments of its graduates. The inductees are prominent business, civic and philanthropic leaders, ardent supporters of the WSU Cougar family, and unwavering advocates of lifelong learning.
Washington State University’s School of Hospitality Business Management was ranked No. 2 in the nation by a global ranking organization. The school was also ranked seventh in the world by the Academic Ranking of World Universities in hospitality and tourism management.
Aaron Whelchel, associate professor of history, is the winner of the 2020-21 Excellence in Online Teaching Award. The award, now in its fifth year, seeks to acknowledge and reward WSU faculty members teaching Global Campus courses who employ best practices to engage, inspire, support, and show care for students in an online environment.

William “Dr. Bill” Schlosser, a faculty member at Washington State University’s School of the Environment, is the winner of the 2020 Oaks Academic Technology Award. The annual award is sponsored by Academic Outreach & Innovation (AOI). The Oaks award, named in honor of visionary innovator Dr. Muriel Oaks, WSU Dean Emeritus, recognizes a faculty member’s innovative application of an existing technology to transform teaching and learning in their classroom.
Three online programs at Washington State University have been ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. Global Campus ranked 23rd nationally for all undergraduate online degree programs, WSU’s online MBA program through the Carson College of Business ranked 18th, and the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture’s online graduate engineering program ranked 21st. WSU’s online MBA and undergraduate degrees were also named among the nation’s best for veterans, ranking 13th and 18th, respectively.
