Global Campus Scholarships Help Cougs Pursue Their Goals 

For WSU Global Campus students, earning a degree often means balancing school with careers, families and other responsibilities. Scholarships can help ease that burden, giving students more freedom to focus on their education and the futures they are working to build. 

For Fall 2026 scholarship recipients Myra Gorham-Bing and Daniel Phipps, that support is helping them pursue their goals – from advocating for youth in foster care to continuing a career of leadership following more than a decade of military service. 

Nancy and Frank Krook Scholarship Recipient – Myra Gorham-Bing 

Gorham-Bing, a junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in human development, came to WSU Global Campus after earning her associate degree from Whatcom Community College in her hometown of Bellingham, Washington. She was drawn to WSU’s human development program and the flexibility to continue working while completing her education. That flexibility connects Gorham-Bing to the alumna whose generosity is now helping support her education.  

Nancy Krook was among the first three graduates of what is now WSU Global Campus, earning her degree in 1994 through WSU’s early Extended Degree Program. After beginning her education in Pullman, life and family circumstances interrupted her studies. WSU’s distance program eventually gave her an opportunity to return and complete her degree. 

Years later, Krook and her husband, Frank, found a way to provide that same opportunity to future students. In 2011, they established a $25,000 endowment that became WSU Global Campus’s first endowed scholarship. 

For Gorham-Bing, the scholarship helps reduce the financial pressure of tuition and living expenses, providing greater stability as she works toward completing her degree. “Your generosity grants me the stability I need to excel academically and prepares me for a future career dedicated to securing resources for kids in the foster care system,” she said. 

Gorham-Bing hopes to eventually work in foster care administration, using her human development education to advocate for systemic change and help ensure foster youth have access to the support and resources they need to succeed.  

WSU Global Campus Carson Veterans Scholarship Recipient — Daniel Phipps 

For graduate student Daniel Phipps, the WSU Global Campus Carson Veterans Scholarship is helping him continue an educational journey shaped by more than 11 years of service in the U.S. Army. 

Phipps developed a passion for leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving during his military career. After transitioning into the defense industry, he wanted to broaden his business knowledge and continue developing as a leader. WSU Global Campus allowed him to pursue an MBA while maintaining his career and supporting his family.  

“One of the lessons I carried with me from the Army is that strong leaders never stop learning,” said Phipps. As a working professional and father of two, Phipps said the scholarship reduces the financial burden of graduate school and allows him to devote more attention to his education, career and family. His long-term goal is to take on greater leadership and strategic responsibilities, using what he learns at WSU to help teams succeed and improve organizations.  

Phipps also hopes the impact of his scholarship eventually extends beyond his own education. “I hope to honor your generosity by making the most of this opportunity and, one day, helping others pursue their own goals as well.”
