WSU Global Campus Launches Cougar Wellness Collective for Online Students

By Jeff Willadsen, WSU Global Campus

This Fall Semester, WSU Global Campus is launching the Cougar Wellness Collective, a new club designed to help students maintain their mental, physical and emotional well-being while earning their degrees online. The Cougar Wellness Collective aims to create an open and safe community where every student is invited to engage in their personal wellbeing journey.

“We want students to know that, although they can’t come together physically, they aren’t alone in their pursuit of personal wellness,” said Shane McFarland, coordinator of Global Campus’ Wellbeing Online program and the club’s staff advisor.

The club offers a platform for open discussions, interactive workshops, and enriching activities focused on key aspects of wellness such as mindfulness, physical fitness, nutrition, meditation, and relaxation techniques.

“We know that balancing work, family life, and school can be challenging,” said McFarland. “So we are making it a priority to provide our online Cougs with access to highly effective, holistic resources, techniques, and strategies that can improve their lives and reduce stress as they pursue higher education online with Global Campus.”

The Cougar Wellness Collective is just one of several active clubs and groups available to online students through Global Connections, WSU Global Campus’ student involvement program. Other groups include the Psychology Club, First Generation Student Club, LGBTQ+ Club, Cougs for Recovery (a group focused on addiction recovery and similar issues), and Cougs and Cubs (a group focusing on students with children at home).

“At Global Campus, we’re all about building community, no matter where our students are around the world,” said Andria Donnenwerth, director of Global Campus student involvement. “We want to foster a meaningful and impactful campus experience for students in the online setting. Providing ways for students with shared interests or identities to come together is a huge part of building that strong sense of Coug camaraderie that we love to see.”

Alongside clubs and groups, Global Connections also offers webinars and information sessions, an Esports program, virtual game nights, and helps facilitate the Global Campus student government.
