All of our events are open to the Global Campus student body and free to attend!
ASWSU Global and Global Connections host a variety of events across Global Campus, all of which are accessible and help students connect to resources, get involved in civic engagement, develop leadership skills, and meet other students.
From our publicly accessible executive board meetings (where students are welcome to share their voices and give feedback on how to better their educational experiences) to fun events such as trivia, karaoke, and study sessions, both ASWSU Global and Global Connections are continuously adding events to the agenda.

El Cantante Movie Night – Hispanic Heritage Month
September 27, 2023

Come and join us in watching this drama musical film on Tubi which tells the story of Hector Lavoe, a Puerto Rican singer whose voice showcases the salsa music to the world.
El Cantante, starring Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez, showcases the life and death of Hector Lavoe, who is seen as the godfather of Salsa. While Hector is following the footprints of those before him, he is guided by his wife, Puchi, in black and white flashbacks. Puchi lived until 2002, up until drugs took her life. This movie is a musical that shows Hector Lavoe’s love for Salsa, with his upbringing from Puerto Rico when he moved to New York and partnered with Willie Colon, a trombonist. Salsa is the blend of Latin, jazz, and rock which becomes a very big deal thanks to Hector Lavoe and his musical gift.
The Untold Stories: Using Art as a Tool for Revolution and Healing (In-Person)

ASWSU Global is thrilled to be partnering with WSU Pullman’s Chicanx Latinx Student Center (CLSC) and Global Connections to present The Untold Stories: Using Art as a Tool for Revolution and Healing. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month, we will be hosting muralist Jose “Nuke” Montalvo, who will lead a presentation and workshop demonstrating art as a tool for social revolution, change, and healing.
Join us in the Elson S. Floyd Cultural Center at WSU Pullman on Friday, September 29th, for an evening of food, music, and art. Doors open at 5 PM, with dinner beginning at 5:30 PM. Following dinner, Jose “Nuke” Montalvo will begin his presentation and lead a painting workshop. All supplies will be provided. 15 students who participate in-person will be chosen to help design a mural that will be created on the Pullman Campus. Registration for the in-person event closes on Friday, September 15th. We are able to accommodate 60 Global students – click RSVP to register now before spots fill up!
Pullman campus is also hosting the Pacific Northwest Student Leadership Conference on Saturday, September 30th, and Global campus students are invited to attend! More information about the Leadership Conference – as well as registration information – can be found here.
Interested in attending, but worried about the cost of traveling to Pullman? Take advantage of ASWSU Global’s travel grant! Submit your travel request by Friday, September 15th to be reimbursed up to $150 from your travel-related expenses (make sure to keep all of your receipts!). The Untold Stories: Using Art as a Tool for Revolution and Healing (Virtual)

ASWSU Global is thrilled to be partnering with WSU Pullman’s Chicanx Latinx Student Center (CLSC) and Global Connections to present The Untold Stories: Using Art as a Tool for Revolution and Healing. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month, we will be hosting muralist Jose “Nuke” Montalvo, who will lead a presentation and workshop demonstrating art as a tool for social revolution, change, and healing.
Tune in via Zoom to hear Nuke speak, then join us in applying the presentation concepts to our own art. The first fifteen (15) S&A fee-paying Global campus students who register for the virtual event by Friday, September 15th will be sent complimentary painting supplies. Click RSVP to register.

Heartland Movie Night – LGBTQ+ History Month

Join us in watching Heartland on Tubi.
After Lauren’s partner dies from cancer, Lauren moves back to live with her mother, Crystal, in Oklahoma. Crystal loves her daughter endlessly; however, she doesn’t accept the fact that Lauren is a lesbian and hopes that her daughter “will go straight”. Things start to heat up when Lauren’s brother, Justin, comes to town with his fiancée Carrie to open up fulfill their dream of opening a winery. Justin leaves Lauren and Carrie in charge of the marketing side of the winery and enlist the two to design new labels for the bottles. Quickly, Lauren and Carrie get closer and closer and realize that their bond is stronger than a friendship.

Fresh Air Scavenger Hunt
October 9 – October 20, 2023
Looking for an excuse to head out on a walk? Join in the Fresh Air Scavenger Hunt! Just be on the lookout for the following items and take a picture. Then, submit your photos to global.events@wsu.edu any time between October 9th-20th, and ten lucky students will win a prize! A tree, a bench, an animal, water (be it in a bottle or a lake!), and a group of three or more flowers.

If you’re looking to meet other Cougs, enjoy some stellar books, and get LIT- erary – this is perfect for you! This year’s theme, hosted by Abigail Chandos, ASWSUG President, is BROADENING OUR HORIZONS. In celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month, we’ll be reading Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armsfield. Registration begins on September 1st, 2023. The first ten (10) students to register will receive a Kindle or paperback copy of the book.
Swiftie Night

Dear reader, can I ask you a question..? Is school treacherous? Are you feeling like you’re tied together with a smile? Do you need to calm down? Or do you just have a blank space on your calendar? I wish you would take your worry and shake it off with us at Swiftie Night on October 13th, 4:30-5:30! We will be making gorgeous friendship bracelets that will leave you feeling bejeweled. Show off your knowledge with games like finish the lyric and guess the song, with the chance to win Coug swag. Don’t blame me if you have the best day and find happiness with your fellow Swifties – after all, it’s nice to have a friend!
Long story short: run, don’t walk, to register, because the first ten (10) global and S & A fee-paying Swifties to sign by 3 October will be the lucky ones and will receive a free bracelet making kit! Don’t find yourself thinking “would’ve, could’ve, should’ve;” for the last time, make sure to register!

The Addams Family Movie Night – Halloween Special

Let’s watch and enjoy together this fun Addams Family: Halloween Special movie on Tubi.
In this comedy-horror film from 1977, The Addams Family is preparing for their Halloween holiday bash. Things get interesting when Pancho, Gomez’s brother, comes to visit the family. Gomez has been jealous of Pancho since he wedded Morticia. The real turn is when Gomez lures off crooks that bugged the house in hopes to steal the family fortune. “Bones” and his men orchestrated a plan to do so, which includes a fake Gomez and Morticia. However, will their plan succeed, and will they be able to fool the rest of the family?

Coco Movie Night – Dia de los Muertos

Join us in watching Coco, a well-loved movie, highlighting the Dia De Los Muertos tradition.

With inspiration from the Mexican holiday, Día de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead), Miguel is a young musician, despite his family’s music ban, who looks up to the late musician Ernesto de la Cruz. After Miguel discovers a photo of his great-great- grandfather holding Ernesto’s famous guitar he is left with unanswered questions which leads him to want to learn more about his ancestors, so he goes on a journey to do just that. Miguel’s grandmother destroys his guitar after Miguel shares that he plans to become a musician, he steals Ernesto’s guitar. After strumming it once, Miguel becomes invisible and can interact with relatives visiting from the Land of the Dead- in skeletal dead form. Along the way, Miguel meets Hector, and the two become unexpected friends who unleash the questions, mysteries, and traditions of Miguel’s family.

Indigenous People of the Americas (Cherokee Documentary) Movie Night – Native American Heritage Month

Let’s delve together in this 39-minute documentary, showcasing the history, culture, and how the largest tribe came to be. The Cherokee Nation is the largest tribe in the United States (out of 567 tribes). The tribe currently has over 300,000 members.

A Christmas Carol (1984) Movie Night

Let’s watch together a Christmas classic on Tubi.
In this Christmas classic, Ebenezer Scrooge hates Christmas and is seen as a greedy selfish man. He is greeted by his former partner Jacob Marley’s ghost on Christmas seven years after his death. Jacob tells Scrooge that he has one chance to avoid the same fate. With that, he will be visited by three spirits and must listen to them all. There are three sprits; the Ghost of Christmas Past, Present, and Future in the forms of Ebenezer Scrooge that are brought to remind Scrooge of the life he lived and could live. Throughout these three stages, Scrooge is tested and will be threated to change his ways.
