Reports

ASWSU Global — President’s Report

ASWSUG President, Gina M Vasquez

The last couple weeks have been busy! The new position for Director of Diversity is live on the site and will remain open for 2 weeks before the selection process begins.

By now I hope you’ve all reviewed the applicants for Director of Resources and the RAA Committee as my goal is to have all seats in the committee filled as well as the director position by our next Exec meeting on 10/21. The bylaws have been finished and are only waiting on approval from the RAA Committee, so it is imperative that we have the committee in order by then.

With recent transitional changes I have gotten a bit behind and have not dedicated as much time as I would like to project’s like the virtual food pantry proposal. In the last couple weeks, I’ve also worked with Angela to send out a welcome gift for newly enrolled Global Campus students which should have gone out already, if not will go out soon. I appreciate your patience as I find my bearings, work towards stability and making lasting change for our students.

ASWSU Global — Vice President’s Report

Heather Leasure, ASWSUG Vice President

Brief Summary of What You Have Been Working On

I revamped the grocery reimbursement form and sent on to get loaded onto the website so we can get that opened up with the new $150 limit up from $50. Still working on getting the right contacts at Walmart for the voucher program/virtual food pantry.

What You Will Be Working On Between Now and the Next Meeting

Meeting Updates

Attended the leadership conference this past Saturday and it was good. There were many great pieces but mainly it was make a difference to everyone you help. And life is messy but people are messier.

Added Notes

Welcome Nigeria, our new Director of Academic Affairs!

ASWSU Global — Director of Legislative Affairs’ Report

Samantha Fakharzadeh, ASWSUG Director of Legislative Affairs

What I Am Working on Currently

I am currently working on a bill proposal for WSA General Assembly to either reject or support and add into the WSA legislative agenda! I am working with another DoLA to increase transparency from administration and turn-around time requirements for administration to call for meetings that involve student decision making surrounding the use of S&A fees. We are proposing this to administration first before moving it to legislature.

I am separating the legislative agenda into three levels based on where I want to see changes happen. I will be done with the legislative agenda by October 5th.

Institutional level:

  • What we want to see change at WSU

State level:

  • What we want to see change for all WA state colleges and universities

Federal level:

  • What we want to see change in the US
What I Am Working on in the Near Future

Getting ready for my meetings in Olympia! I finally bought a blazer! I will be working out of WSA’s Olympia office as much as I am able. Senator Randall will be trying to help get face time with legislators as much as COVID policies will allow.

NOTE: See tentative legislative agenda at the end.

ASWSU Global — Director of Communication and Compliance Report

Tessa Endencia, ASWSUG Director of Communication and Compliance

Brief Summary of What You Have Been Working On

I’ve been working on promoting the committees and the events with an emphasis on email communications. Two emails have gone out in the last week promoting Trivia Night and the committees, with another email going out this week promoting Trivia Night and the reimbursements.

What You Will Be Working On Between Now and the Next Meeting

I will be working on drafting communications promoting reimbursements (particularly the grocery reimbursement) along with Yoga Night. I am also going to be working on the homepage.

Any Updates

It’s been a super busy week, but I feel like we’re getting a lot done!

Project Ideas

If someone wants to practice their HTML skills, I could really use some help in redesigning the email confirmation template! Mostly just looking to add a header and redesign the fonts.

Meeting Updates

We had the diversity committee, one on one’s with Heather and Gina, and events committee. I am particularly stoked about the diversity committee, as we had some great conversations about mentorship, increasing diversity among faculty, among others.

Added Notes

My partner and I are in the process of buying a house, so I will be in and out these next few weeks.
