Term, Commitment, and Compensation

  • Term: May 2026–May 2027 (includes summer onboarding + spring transition)
  • Average Weekly Hours: 18–25 hours/week
  • Yearly Stipend: $16,500 (distributed in monthly installments over 12.5 months)
  • Enrollment Requirement: 6 credits Fall + 6 credits Spring (summer enrollment not required)

Role, Purpose, and Position Overview

The ASWSUG President serves as the primary student representative and chief executive officer of the Associated Students of Washington State University Global Campus. The President provides strategic direction, organizational leadership, and institutional representation for the Global Campus student body. This role works closely with the Executive Board, advisors, university administrators, and system-level leadership to advocate for student needs and advance organizational priorities. The President ensures team accountability, operational continuity, and long-term organizational development. As President, you will be responsible for the success of the organization and direction of your team. It is the duty of the President to make sure your team has the support necessary to succeed and work with the campus administration to move the organization’s mission forward.

Role Expectations and Responsibilities

Leadership & Governance 

  • Serves as chief executive officer of ASWSUG and provides overall strategic direction
  • Leads the Executive Board in establishing annual goals, priorities, and initiatives in conjunction with the Vice President
  • Ensures organizational compliance with ASWSUG bylaws, constitution, and university policy
  • Assigns and delegates responsibilities to Executive Board officers. Appoints temporary officers in the event of a vacancy until a formal selection process is completed
  • Facilitates review and Executive Board vote on the annual S&A Fee budget proposal prior to submission to the Resource & Accountability Board in January. 

Strategy & Planning

  • Collects and evaluates student feedback to identify emerging needs and institutional priorities, in conjunction with the Director of Assessment
  • Develops strategic plans in collaboration with the Vice President and Executive Board
  • Collaborates with the Director of Finance in preparing and presenting the annual S&A Fee budget request to the Resource Allocation and Accountability (RAA) Committee
  • Coordinate team scheduling, trainings, and office hours in conjunction with the Vice President
  • Chairs yearly Commencement Dinner Committee as supported by the Executive Board.
  • Serves as Chair to the Student Affairs Senate

Operations & Project Coordination 

  • Oversees Executive Board operations to ensure timely completion of projects and initiatives
  • Supports development of professional trainings, retreats, and organizational planning efforts
  • Assists in recruitment strategy and leadership transitions

Communication & Team Coordination

  • Meets weekly with advisors and the Vice President
  • Meets individually with Executive Board Directors at least once per month, and monthly for 2:1’s as coordinated with the Vice President. 
  • Maintains consistent communication with Executive Board officers to ensure alignment and accountability

Representation & Advocacy 

  • Serves as primary liaison between ASWSUG and university administration
  • Represents Global Campus students at Student Government Council (SGC) meetings and other system-wide governance events
  • Attends Board of Regents meetings when appropriate and provides student reports as requested
  • Meets monthly with the Global Campus Chancellor. The Vice President may be added to these meetings. 
  • Promotes Global Campus student priorities in administrative and institutional meetings

Presidential Authority & Institutional Accountability

  • Serves as the final approving authority for Executive Board strategic direction and organizational priorities.
  • Holds ultimate accountability for the performance, conduct, and effectiveness of the Executive Board.
  • Provides institutional continuity and long-term vision beyond a single academic year.
  • Exercises executive discretion when urgent decisions are required between scheduled meetings.
  • Oversees leadership transition planning and organizational documentation to preserve institutional knowledge.
  • Retains final decision-making authority on organizational direction and executive-level matters.

Meeting Expectations and Time Commitment

Core Meetings:

  • Lead and facilitate weekly ASWSUG Executive Board meetings
  • Meet weekly with the ASWSUG Advisor and Vice President.
  • In collaboration with the Vice President, meet monthly with each director.
  • Attend monthly Student Affairs Senate meetings.

Additional Leadership Commitments:

  • Student Government Council participation up to eight times throughout the academic year (travel required)
  • Lead and facilitate ASWSUG events (i.e., Townhalls and Listening Sessions)
  • Lead and manage hiring for the incoming ASWSUG team in January of term unless reapplying for the board.
  • Meet monthly with the Global Campus Chancellor. 
  • Meet monthly with the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs as needed. 
  • Serve on administrative or governance committees as requested. Delegate as needed to the Executive Board.

Workload Reality:

  • Average commitment of 18-25 hours/week
  • Significant time is spent in meetings, strategic planning, institutional communication, and organizational coordination. 
  • Workload may increase during onboarding, hiring, or major initiatives

Travel and Professional Development

  • The President has opportunities to engage in institutional leadership development, statewide collaboration, and professional networking within the Washington State University system. Because of this, occasional fully funded travel within Washington State is required for governance meetings or leadership conferences for this position. 
  • Travel required includes:
    • Hybrid Townhalls in Pullman
    • In-person SGC events throughout the academic year
    • Other events as necessary, such as Coug Day at the Capitol

Qualifications and Eligibility

Eligibility Requirements 

  • Currently enrolled S&A fee‑paying Global Campus student
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 and good academic/disciplinary standing
  • Enrolled in at least six (6) credits during Fall and Spring
  • Summer enrollment not required; onboarding begins during summer
  • Able to commit to the full May–May leadership term
  • Able to work effectively in a fully virtual environment
  • Availability during daytime weekday hours to accommodate administrative and campus partner schedules is required for this position*
