ASWSU Global Director of Assessment Job Description
Term, Commitment, and Compensation
- Term: May 2026–May 2027 (includes summer onboarding + spring transition)
- Average Weekly Hours: 10–15 hours/week
- Yearly Stipend: $8,500 (distributed in monthly installments over 12.5 months)
- Enrollment Requirement: 6 credits Fall + 6 credits Spring (summer enrollment not required)
Role, Purpose, and Position Overview

The ASWSUG Director of Assessment (DOA) leads student-centered data collection and reporting efforts to support informed decision-making across the organization. This is a developing and evolving leadership role designed to strengthen how ASWSUG gathers, organizes, and applies student feedback to advocacy, budgeting, and strategic planning. Working closely with the President and other roles as listed, the Director of Assessment ensures that Global Campus student voices are systematically collected and translated into accessible, actionable summaries. This role emphasizes ethical data stewardship, structured reporting, and process development to improve year-over-year organizational continuity.

Role Expectations and Responsibilities
Assessment Strategy & Oversight
- Serves as the lead for the development and implementation of ASWSUG’s annual Needs Assessment and Language Survey in collaboration with Executive leadership. This may include being the point-of-contact for departmental collaborators, such as Wellbeing.
- Designs and administers student feedback tools, including surveys and listening-session instruments
- Establishes structured timelines for assessment cycles, particularly during Fall and Early Spring planning periods. Reports all findings to the President.
Data Collection & Reporting
- Analyzes survey results and student feedback
- Translates findings into clear executive summaries, data visuals, and presentation-ready materials
- Provides monthly assessment reports at Executive Board meetings on current work
- Maintains organized documentation of instruments, datasets, and reports to support longitudinal tracking
Budget & Proposal Development Collaboration
- Collaborates with the President and Director of Finance during budgeting season (typically November–January) to provide assessment data supporting S&A proposals
- Participates in structured proposal development meetings with Executive leadership by meeting regularly with team members and the President.
- Contributes assessment insight to strategic planning discussions and institutional reporting efforts
Ethical Data Stewardship & Compliance
- Maintains ethical data practices in alignment with university privacy standards and applicable FERPA guidelines
- Ensures secure storage of assessment materials in approved shared systems
- Raises concerns related to data governance or student privacy to the Advisor or President
Organizational Development & Flexibility
- Provides regular reports at weekly Executive Board meetings
- Meets monthly with the President and Vice President during coordinated 2:1’s.
- Consults with Directors to embed assessment into ASWSUG initiatives and programming
- Supports post-initiative assessment efforts (e.g., voucher program surveys, event evaluations, or pilot initiatives)
- Contributes to refining and developing ASWSUG’s long-term assessment structure
- Recognizes that this role is adaptive and subject to refinement as systems are formalized
Meeting Expectations and Time Commitment
Core Meetings:
- Weekly Executive Board meetings (minimum 80% attendance)
- Monthly 2:1’s with President and Vice President
- Attend monthly Student Affairs Senate meetings
- Other committee or role specific meetings as designated.
Additional Leadership Commitments (role‑dependent):
- Assessment planning sessions during peak survey periods
- Participation in ASWSUG initiatives, including leading Cougs-Get LIT meetings as designated by the Vice President.
- ASWSUG Townhalls and Listening Sessions
Workload Reality:
- Average commitment of 10–15 hours per week
- Workload increases during major survey launches
- Time demands may temporarily exceed weekly averages during peak reporting cycles or dependent on external collaborator needs
Travel and Professional Development
- Travel is not required for the Director of Assessment position.
- Optional, fully funded travel opportunities within Washington State may be available throughout the term, depending on role relevance and organizational needs.
- Optional travel may include participation (in-person) ASWSUG events, governance gatherings, or leadership development opportunities.

Qualifications and Eligibility
Eligibility Requirements
- Currently enrolled S&A fee‑paying Global Campus student
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 and good academic/disciplinary standing
- Enrolled in at least six (6) credits during Fall and Spring
- Summer enrollment not required; onboarding begins during summer
- Able to commit to the full May–May leadership term
- Able to work effectively in a fully virtual environment

- Interest in learning qualitative coding or thematic analysis
- Experience working with structured reporting or evaluation processes
