ASWSU Global Vice President Job Description
Term, Commitment, and Compensation
- Term: May 2026 – May 2027 (includes summer onboarding + spring transition)
- Average Weekly Hours: 18 hours/week
- Yearly Stipend: $16,500 (distributed in monthly installments over 12.5 months)
- Enrollment Requirement: 6 credits Fall + 6 credits Spring (summer enrollment not required)
Role, Purpose, and Position Overview
The ASWSUG Vice President serves as the secondary representative and advocate for the needs of the entire Global Campus student body to faculty, staff, administration, community groups, and within the Washington State University System. Working in close partnership with the President, the Vice President supports organizational direction, ensures operational follow-through, and strengthens coordination across Executive Board portfolios. This role focuses on internal leadership development, process improvement, and project execution while also serving as a secondary external representative when needed. In the absence of the President, or upon delegation, the Vice President assumes presidential responsibilities to ensure continuity of leadership and representation.

Role Expectations and Responsibilities
Leadership & Governance
- Serves as secondary executive officer of ASWSUG and partner in organizational leadership
- Presides over Executive Board meetings in the absence of the President or when delegated
- Assumes presidential authority and responsibilities when the President is unavailable
- Supports the President in compliance with ASWSUG bylaws, constitution, and university policy
- Participates in governance discussions and institutional representation as needed
- Leads the ASWSUG Club Cougs Get-LITerary and assigns team members to plan and host one of the monthly meetings.
Strategy & Planning
- Collaborates with the President to establish annual goals and priorities
- Supports strategic planning and monitors progress toward organizational objectives
- Identifies operational improvements that strengthen Executive Board effectiveness
Operations & Project Coordination
- Supports the President in internal coordination across Director portfolios to ensure project alignment
- Supports implementation of ASWSUG initiatives, events, and organizational priorities
- Facilitates leadership recruitment, onboarding, and transition processes in collaboration with the President and advisors
- Monitors progress of delegated projects and ensures accountability across the Executive Board
Communication & Team Coordination
- Meets weekly with ASWSUG advisors and the President
- Communicates emerging operational issues to the President and advisors as appropriate and during weekly meeting with the President
- Assists in coordinating monthly 2:1 meetings between the directors, themselves, and the President
- Maintains regular communication with Directors regarding initiatives, timelines, and concerns
- Supports relationship development and cohesion among Executive Board members
Representation & Advocacy
- Serves as a member of the Student Government Council and participates in governance meetings
- Acts as secondary representative to faculty, staff, and administration in support of organizational operations
- Supports student advocacy efforts and assists administrative partners when delegated
Internal Operations & Executive Continuity
- Holds primary responsibility for internal operational coordination, next to the President, and day-to-day Executive Board functionality.
- Ensures continuity of leadership during presidential absence or transition
- Supports conflict resolution and process refinement within the Executive Board
- Assists in delegating responsibilities during Executive Board vacancies until appointments are finalized
Meeting Expectations and Time Commitment
Core Meetings:
- Attend weekly ASWSUG Executive Board meetings
- Weekly leadership meetings with the President and ASWSUG Advisors
- In collaboration with the President, meet monthly with each director
- Attend monthly Student Affairs Senate meetings
Additional Leadership Commitments:
- Student Government Council participation up to eight times throughout the academic year (travel required)
- Any hiring, onboarding meetings, or other committees as designated
- Administrative or governance committees as requested. May be invited to sit on monthly Global Campus Chancellor meetings as designated by the President
- Attend and help facilitate ASWSUG events (i.e., Townhalls and Listening Sessions)
- Hiring Committee participation (as applicable)
Workload Reality:
- Average commitment of 18 hours per week
- Significant time is spent in internal coordination, meetings, communication, and operational oversight
- Workload may increase during onboarding, hiring, absence of the President, or major initiatives
Travel and Professional Development
- This role offers opportunities for leadership development, collaboration with institutional partners, and professional growth within the Washington State University system. Because of this, occasional fully funded travel within Washington State is required for governance meetings or leadership conferences for this position.
- Travel required includes:
- Hybrid Townhalls in Pullman
- In-person SGC events throughout the academic year
- Other events as necessary, such as Coug Day at the Capitol

Qualifications and Eligibility
Eligibility Requirements
- Currently enrolled S&A fee‑paying Global Campus student
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 and good academic/disciplinary standing
- Enrolled in at least six (6) credits during Fall and Spring
- Summer enrollment not required; onboarding begins during summer
- Able to commit to the full May–May leadership term
- Able to work effectively in a fully virtual environment
- Availability during daytime weekday hours to accommodate administrative and campus partner schedules is required for this position*
