ASWSU Global Director of Outreach Job Description
Term, Commitment, and Compensation
- Term: May 2026–May 2027 (includes summer onboarding + spring transition)
- Average Weekly Hours: 12–18 hours/week
- Yearly Stipend: $10,000 (distributed in monthly installments over 12.5 months)
- Enrollment Requirement: 6 credits Fall + 6 credits Spring (summer enrollment not required)
Role, Purpose, and Position Overview
The ASWSUG Director of Outreach leads student engagement and belonging efforts across Global Campus. This role focuses on designing and implementing inclusive, student-centered engagement initiatives that strengthen community connection and representation. Working closely with the President, Vice President, Director of Assessment, and Director of Promotions, the Director of Outreach ensures that ASWSUG outreach strategies are data-informed, culturally responsive, and accessible to students across diverse backgrounds and life stages. Ultimately, this position serves as a bridge between student voices and organizational programming, ensuring that outreach efforts translate into meaningful student participation.

Role Expectations and Responsibilities
Student Engagement & Event Leadership
- Leads the planning and execution of ASWSUG Week of Welcome engagement initiatives in Fall and Spring semesters. Coordinates with the President and Global Connections Coordinator to understand responsibilities.
- Coordinates student-facing engagement events, including listening sessions, town halls, and community forums as delegated by the President or Vice President
- Designs outreach strategies that increase participation across diverse student populations
- Supports execution of ASWSUG events and initiatives to ensure accessibility and inclusive engagement
Student Affairs Senate Coordination
- Serves as the vice-chair for the Student Affairs Senate, coordinates duties as appointed by the President
- Supports onboarding and integration of Student Senators according to Bylaw Article V.C.4.
- Ensures marketing efforts for recruitment of paid student senators occurs. Coordinates hiring of senators with the President during the Summer term ahead of Fall start.
- Collaborates with Senate leadership to align student engagement initiatives with Senate priorities
Inclusive Outreach Strategy
- Identifies representation gaps in student participation through collaboration with the Director of Assessment
- Works with the Director of Promotions to ensure inclusive representation in communications and marketing
- Advocates for outreach strategies that support students from diverse backgrounds, life stages, and abilities
- Serves as ASWSUG’s representative on committees related to belonging, multicultural engagement, and student inclusion when appropriate
Program Participation & Support
- Provides regular reports at weekly Executive Board meetings
- Meets monthly with the President and Vice President during coordinated 2:1’s
- Provides student engagement data and feedback trends to the Director of Assessment to inform survey development and reporting
- Works in partnership with Executive leadership to align outreach with institutional priorities
- Supports collaborative engagement programming alongside other Directors and Student Affairs Senate
Meeting Expectations and Time Commitment
Core Meetings:
- Weekly Executive Board meetings
- Monthly 2:1’s with President and Vice President
- Monthly Student Affairs Senate meetings. Serve as Chair in President’s absence.
- Other committee or role specific meetings as designated.
Additional Leadership Commitments (role‑dependent):
- Week of Welcome planning meetings for ASWSUG event in conjunction with Global Connections
- Attend and help facilitate ASWSUG events (i.e., Townhalls and Listening Sessions)
- Participation in ASWSUG initiatives, including leading Cougs-Get LIT meetings as designated by the Vice President.
- Hiring Committee participation (as applicable)
Workload Reality:
- Average commitment of 12–18 hours per week
- Significant time is spent on event coordination, student communication, and cross-portfolio collaboration
- Workload increases during Week of Welcome periods and major engagement initiatives
Travel and Professional Development
- Travel is not required for the Director of Outreach position.
- Optional, fully funded travel opportunities within Washington State may be available throughout the term, depending on role relevance and organizational needs.
- Optional travel may include participation (in-person) ASWSUG events, governance gatherings, or leadership development opportunities.

Qualifications and Eligibility
Eligibility Requirements
- Currently enrolled S&A fee‑paying Global Campus student
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 and good academic/disciplinary standing
- Enrolled in at least six (6) credits during Fall and Spring
- Summer enrollment not required; onboarding begins during summer
- Able to commit to the full May–May leadership term
- Able to work effectively in a fully virtual environment
