ASWSU Global Director of Promotions Job Description

Term, Commitment, and Compensation

  • Term: May 2026 – May 2027 (includes summer onboarding + spring transition)
  • Average Weekly Hours: 10-15 hours/week
  • Yearly Stipend: $8,500
  • Enrollment Requirement: 6 credits Fall + 6 credits Spring (summer enrollment not required)

Role, Purpose, and Position Overview

The Director of Promotions leads ASWSUG’s digital engagement strategy and oversees the organization’s public-facing social media presence. This role is responsible for developing and executing a strategic social media plan that expands ASWSUG’s reach, increases student engagement, and strengthens visibility across platforms. Through data-informed decision-making and creative campaign development, the Director of Promotions amplifies student voice, highlights organizational initiatives, and builds a cohesive digital presence that reflects the professionalism and impact of ASWSUG.

Role Expectations and Responsibilities

Social Media Strategy & Growth

  • Develop and lead ASWSUG’s social media growth strategy across all official platforms.
  • Establish a defined posting cadence aligned with engagement goals and organizational priorities.
  • Create platform-specific strategies (Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) that expand reach beyond passive followers.
  • Identify innovative ways to increase student interaction, visibility, and digital presence.
  • Maintain a consistent organizational voice that reflects ASWSUG’s advocacy, engagement, and leadership priorities.

Content Creation & Campaign Execution

  • Create engaging, student-centered promotional content for ASWSUG initiatives, events, and advocacy efforts.
  • Design graphics, captions, and multimedia materials aligned with brand standards.
  • Develop structured campaigns for major initiatives (e.g., Town Halls, Coug Day, hiring cycles, major events).
  • Adapt engagement strategies (e.g., involvement points, interactive content) to increase participation.

Analytics & Digital Optimization

  • Regularly review platform analytics and engagement data (e.g., Hootsuite, native platform insights).
  • Use performance data to refine strategy, adjust content, and improve digital impact.
  • Track audience growth and engagement trends to inform future campaigns.
  • Present insights and recommendations to the Executive Board as needed.

Collaboration & Engagement Amplification

  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Communications & Compliance to ensure continuity across internal and external messaging.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Outreach to amplify engagement initiatives without duplicating responsibilities.
  • Conduct structured check-ins with Alumni Association and Cougs Connect to promote post-graduation resources.
  • Attend and support major ASWSUG events, capturing content and engaging students directly.
  • Contribute to shared Executive Board projects and organizational priorities beyond individual role responsibilities when needed.
  • Represent ASWSUG in a professional and student-centered manner during events and collaborative activities.

Meeting Expectations and Time Commitment

Core Meetings:

  • Weekly Executive Board Meetings
  • Weekly Marketing Team Meetings
  • Monthly 2:1’s with President and Vice President
  • Bi-weekly Global Campus Social Media “Squad” Meetings
  • Monthly Student Affairs Senate meetings
  • Other committee or role specific meetings as designated

Additional Leadership Commitments 

  • Structured collaboration meetings with Alumni Association and Cougs Connect
  • Cross-director planning meetings for major campaigns and initiatives
  • Attend and help facilitate ASWSUG events (i.e., Townhalls and Listening Sessions) for the purpose of engagement, content creation, and documentation
  • Participation in ASWSUG initiatives, including leading Cougs-Get LIT meetings as designated by the Vice President.
  • Hiring Committee participation (as applicable)

Workload Reality:

  • Average commitment of 15–18 hours per week
  • Workload increases during major campaigns, hiring cycles, Town Halls, Coug Day, and election periods
  • Significant time is dedicated to content creation, editing, scheduling, engagement monitoring, and analytics review
  • Requires proactive planning and consistent monitoring of social media platforms

Travel and Professional Development

  • Travel is not routinely required for the Director of Promotions position; however, occasional fully funded travel within Washington State may be necessary to support ASWSUG’s digital engagement strategy. All travel expectations will align with campaign priorities and organizational marketing needs for the academic year.
    • Travel may include attendance at in-person ASWSUG initiatives such as Town Halls, Coug Day at the Capitol, or other major events when real-time content capture, social media coverage, and student engagement efforts are needed.

Qualifications and Eligibility

Eligibility Requirements

  • Currently enrolled S&A fee‑paying Global Campus student
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 and good academic/disciplinary standing
  • Enrolled in at least six (6) credits during Fall and Spring
  • Summer enrollment not required; onboarding begins during summer
  • Able to commit to the full May–May leadership term
  • Able to work effectively in a fully virtual environment

Skills & Attributes 

  • Interest in digital marketing, communications, public relations, or student engagement.
  • Strong written and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to think strategically about audience engagement and digital growth.
  • Experience or familiarity with social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook).
  • Ability to develop and implement a content strategy rather than post reactively.
  • Comfort reviewing engagement data (analytics) to inform decisions.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a consistent posting cadence.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work closely with Communications & Compliance and Outreach.
  • Creativity balanced with professionalism in representing ASWSUG publicly.
  • Initiative and reliability in independently managing digital engagement efforts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing social media accounts for an organization, club, business, or personal brand.
  • Experience using content scheduling or analytics tools (e.g., Hootsuite or similar platforms).
  • Experience creating graphics or short-form video content.
