President’s Report

Gina Vasquez, ASWSUG President

I have a few updates since we last convened. The application for Director of Academic Affairs closed recently and we expect to be welcoming a new member at the next meeting! I will be reaching out to schedule interviews this week and will ask that if ASWSUG Exec. Board members are available to please attend.

Last week Heather, Ariadna, and I met with Dave Cillay and Debbie O’Donnell to discuss moving forward with the creation of a proposal to a corporate company about allowing us to use their national reach and infrastructure to help provide food vouchers for students to address food insecurity. This project will be a challenging process, but students will have a lot to gain if and when we are successful. With that said, while this project will require some time and will likely live on into next semester.

The bylaws are finally done and will be sent out to all directors to review. These will not yet be posted on the website because they much be reviewed by the Resource Allocation and Accountability Committee first. This committee will also be assembled at our next meeting as the application closes next week.

Please let me know if there is anything I can support you with!

Vice President Report

Heather Leasure, ASWSUG Vice President

Brief Summary of What You Have Been Working On

I have been working on getting all information for the honor societies I will be presenting at this meeting to add to the NSLS reimbursement fund that I would like to rename to the honor society reimbursement. I have also partnered with Ariadna and Gina to work on getting a global food pantry off the ground with partnerships to include Walmart and Fred Meyer/Kroger to allow students to take a voucher in and purchase their own items without having to pay up front and get reimbursed.

What You Will Be Working On Between Now and the Next Meeting

The food pantry project will be taking up most of my time with research, meetings, connecting with the right people at the 2 companies and working through logistics.

Any Updates

None

Project Ideas

I would like to see us do another meet and greet since the first one was not as successful as we had wanted.

Meeting Updates

WSU VP’s meeting was discussing ideas on how to up engagement and mainly they talked about the pay structure changes and prize giveaways.

Director of Legislative Affairs Report

Samantha Fakharzadeh, ASWSUG Director of Legislative Affairs

What I Am Working on Currently

Cougs Vote Efforts
  • Chelsea and I attended a workshop/webinar with WSA about holding events for the National Voter Registration Day.
    • Some successful elements:
      • Creative engagement
      • Getting what students want (which means having students on planning)
      • Prizes
      • Action
    • I have an idea to hold a contest on social media.
      • Students comment with a photo of them holding up a sign with a note of “Why They Vote.”
      • Students who share the post and comment a photo are entered to win a prize.

I have a surgery on the action day, so having two posts, “prize post couple days before” and just sharing on the day with a banner or image reminding students to register to vote.

To be held on September 22nd, 2020.

What I Am Working on in the Near Future

I will be holding a Cougs Chat about the DoLA position, possibly holding it after the national voter registration day event in order to advertise on the voter post.

Director of Marketing & Innovation Report

Alma Perez, ASWSUG Director of Marketing and Innovation

Brief Summary of What You Have Been Working On

This past week was rather hectic for me, and I didn’t have a chance to dive completely in. I worked with Chelsea and Tessa mainly on our events coming up and how to work better as a team. Designed a graphic for the Trivia night coming up and sent that to the group to be sent as part of the newsletter.

What You Will Be Working On Between Now and the Next Meeting

I’m going to make something for Chelsea to fill out so I can keep track of her events and what needs to go on social and when. If this is something that you think would be beneficial for everyone to jump in on, please let me know!

Any Updates

With a crazy schedule I have, I don’t see myself being able to really attend committee meetings. I’m comfortable just receiving an update after those meetings have been completed if there are any action items that I need to complete.

My work schedule has changed, and with everything I’m juggling right now I can’t wholeheartedly commit to being on two other committees.

Project Ideas

More of a process idea, but I used canva for the graphic for trivia, and found it lost quality as soon as I downloaded. I tried to resize and increase quality, but you have to be a premium user. Has anyone else had issues? I’m thinking for me, it would be beneficial to purchase to have more freedom on creativity. So opening that up for discussion.

Meeting Updates

The meeting I had with Tessa and Chelsea was really helpful to understand the events that are upcoming. Able to figure out a process to stay on top of everything as a group.

Added Notes

None

Director of Communication & Compliance Report

Tessa Endencia, ASWSUG Director of Communication and Compliance

Brief Summary of What You Have Been Working On

I have been working on making updates to the ASWSU website. This includes updating the navigation so that it is more concise, updating the “About Us” page, and the “Events” pages. It is still a work in progress, but I think it’s starting to shape up to be great!

What You Will Be Working On Between Now and the Next Meeting

I will be working on the meeting agenda and compiling the director reports. I also would like to get started on emails to promote the events and committees.

Any Updates

I live in Portland, Oregon, which just got hit with really bad wildfires and air pollution — so I apologize for being out of touch these last few days! The fires and air pollution has really wrecked havoc on my respiratory system, which has translated to living on DayQuil and staying in front of the air purifier. I’m hoping that it gets better soon.

Project Ideas

Can we do a fundraiser for those affected by the wildfires?

Meeting Updates

I met with Chelsea and Alma last week, and we got our calendar sorted for the next few months.

Added Notes

I’m doing my best to keep up, but the air quality has me pretty sick at the moment. Fingers crossed that the air quality improves before our next meeting!
