Shopping and Enrolling in Classes
Enrollment for each term opens in myWSU at about the same time every year; in March for the summer term, in April for fall semester, and in November for spring semester.
To enroll in the courses you need for the upcoming term, follow these three steps:
Step 1—Review Your Tasks
From your Student Homepage, select the Tasks tile. The Tasks section provides information on To Do List items and active Holds.
To Do List items communicate the status of tasks that you need to be aware of, such as applying for financial aid.
Holds block your ability to register for classes, drop classes, or receive transcripts. The Hold Details screen will tell you what hold you have, the semester the hold impacts, and who to contact if you have questions.
Step 2—Find Your Enrollment Date
From your Student Homepage select the Manage Classes tile, and then select Enrollment Dates to view the date and time you’re eligible to enroll in the upcoming semester.
Note: Within Manage Classes there are a few options in the left navigation bar that do not pertain to Global Campus students:
- Weekly Schedule
- Update Classes
- Browse Course Catalog
- Optional Services
Steps 3 and 4—Search for Classes to Add to Your Shopping Cart, and Complete Your Registration
All WSU students enroll in courses through myWSU. If you know what courses you need to take each semester, the process for adding courses to your shopping cart and enrolling is easy. The WSU Registrar’s Office website provides a brief video and transcript on how to do that:
How to find a Class Number
To locate a class number for a course, you will likely want to start by browsing the courses that are offered at the WSU Schedules of Classes (schedules.wsu.edu). When you find courses you wish to enroll in, note the class number.
On the Schedules of Classes site you can find courses and their corresponding class numbers two ways:
- From the Home page, select the link for the term listed for Global Campus (for example, Spring 2020). Then select a prefix to browse for courses in a specific area, such as HISTORY, for example.
- To find a specific UCORE designated course, select Search from the navigation menu. Use the Term and Campus drop down menu to select “Spring 2020, Global Campus,” then use the UCORE menu to search for UCORE courses (for example [ROOT] for the Roots of Contemporary Issues courses).
Once you’ve found a course you want to enroll in, there may be more than one section of the course offered. Each section has its own class number. For example, the spring HISTORY 305 course has two sections. The class number for section 1 is 25063, while the class number for section 2 is 29348. If a section if full, seats may be available in another section.
IMPORTANT NOTE: While you are reviewing courses to be offered, be aware of course start dates as some courses do not follow the normal semester schedule. WSU’s Summer term offers several shorter sessions, with varying course start dates and drop/withdrawal deadlines. Course start and end dates will be displayed in the Schedules of Classes in the Dates column.
Courses dropped after the first day of classes may incur a penalty. Be sure you are aware of when your courses begin and end.
