Online students have different challenges than traditional students. Many have jobs and families, and some have overcome serious obstacles. But they’re all willing to work hard and study hard. And they all share the belief that education will lead to a better life for themselves and their families.

Lisa King

Becoming a WSU graduate brought a "sense of family and belonging that only the Cougar Nation can provide," says online graduate Lisa King. The WSU family continues to grow, thanks to Lisa's donation to the scholarship fund. "It feels good inside to know that you've helped someone accomplish their dreams," Lisa says.

Terry Pagos

"It was one of those little secrets I was harboring," says Terry Pagos of not having a college degree. When she enrolled in WSU's online program, she found some of her fellow students were facing incredible odds. "I admired them very much," Terry says. She turned that admiration into action, and made a donation to the scholarship fund.

Sherrie St. Clair

Sherrie St. Clair has come a long way from her troubled childhood and thoughts of suicide. She was determined to break the cycle of abuse, and is now raising her own family and mentoring teens. ““I believe that if I’m going to stay in this world, I want to use the difficulties I have experienced to help others.” She says the $1000 ASWSU-DDP funded scholarship she won is the university telling her, “Yes, we think you can do this.”

Sarah Stone

With her daughters grown up, Sarah missed helping teenagers work out their futures. So she started a knitting club for kids at Walla Walla High School, and became a Girl Scout Troop leader. Her WSU diploma will let her turn her passion into a profession, when she becomes an advisor for teens. "I love it," Sarah says of her ASWSU-DDP scholarship. "It helps so much."

"WOW! Have you ever seen someone so excited that they're jumping up and down yelling like they won the lottery? That's about how I felt when I checked my mail and found the notification that I'd been awarded one of the ASWSU-DDP scholarships - and found it was double what I thought was possible."
