Students taking online courses through WSU Distance Degree Programs need regular access to a computer with Internet access. Because your computer is your connection to your courses – essentially the way you “go to class” – you also need to have a backup plan should your primary computer become unavailable.
It may be possible to receive a loan for a computer.
Technology minimum requirements
Internet Connection:
- Cable or DSL recommended
Windows Operating System Minimum Requirements:
- Windows XP/2000 SP3
- Pentium III 450MHz or faster processor (or equivalent)
- 256 MB of RAM
- Browser Requirements: Internet Explorer 6.0 or better, Opera 9.10, or Firefox (which are free downloads)
Macintosh Minimum Requirements:
- Mac OS X 10.2
- PowerPC® G3 500MHz or faster processor
- Intel Core™ Duo 1.83GHz or faster processor
- 256 MB of RAM
- Browser Requirements: Safari 1.2, Opera 9.10, or Firefox (which are free downloads)
Media Hardware:
- DVD player, VCR
Media Software:
- Flash Player 7 or better (download)
- Adobe Reader 6 or better (download)
- Real Player 8* or better (download)
- Java (for most systems, use J2SE(TM) Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 7 or 8 (download).
For Windows Vista, J2SE(TM) Runtime Environment 6.0_1, which comes standard on Windows Vista) - Windows Media Player 9 or better (download)
*When using RealPlayer, firewalls might cause problems that require reconfiguring settings. If you are connecting to the Internet via AOL, MSN, Earthlink, Sympatico, Mindspring, Netcom, Sprynet, Compuserve, Prodigy Internet, or another common internet service provider (ISP), you should not need to configure RealPlayer for use with a firewall.
