Program of Study

WSU General Education Requirements (GERs) (Can be satisfied with a direct transfer degree; for a list of direct-transfer agreements, visit WSU’s Transfer Information Web page).

Social sciences students have two options; their program of study can include two (PLAN A) or three (PLAN B) different concentrations. Regardless of the plan selected, all students must fulfill WSU’s General Education requirements and the College of Liberal Arts’ graduation requirements.

PLAN A (two concentrations):

Primary Concentration:
(24 semester credits in one Social Sciences discipline)

At least 15 credits must be upper division (300-400 level).

Social Sciences discipline options include the following:

  • Anthropology
  • Criminal Justice
  • History
  • Human Development
  • Political Science
  • Psychology
  • Sociology
  • Women's Studies

Secondary Concentration:
(15 semester credits in any discipline)

All 15 credits must be concentrated within one academic department and at least six of these credits must be upper-division (300-400 level).

A formal minor or an online Organic Agriculture certificate is a great choice for a secondary concentration area in Social Science Plan A. Ask your DDP academic advisor about doubling the distance your degree can take you after graduation by adding the Organic Agriculture certificate or any of the formal minors offered through the Distance Degree Programs.

PLAN B (three areas of concentration):

At least 21 credits must be upper division (300-400 level) and must be included within the concentration areas and Social Sciences electives.

Concentration 1:
(9 semester credits in one Social Sciences discipline)

Concentration 2:
(9 semester credits in a second Social Sciences discipline)

Concentration 3:
(9 semester credits in a third Social Sciences discipline)

Elective Credits:
(12 semester credits in Social Sciences disciplines)

Social Sciences discipline options include the following:

  • Options listed under Plan A
  • Formal Business Minor

College of Liberal Arts Graduation Requirements:

  • 6 additional GER credits of Art & Humanities [H] or Social Sciences [S]
  • 2 additional science elective credits, one of which must be a lab
  • Foreign language: One year (two semesters or three quarters) of one foreign language at the college level or OR two years of one foreign language at the high school level

Please review the online WSU catalog for additional information about specific degree requirements (WSU Catalog).
