Do you love to write? Are you entering a writing-intensive field and want to improve your skills? WSU’s online professional writing certificate provides a strong foundation in effective communication skills.
Potential careers
Program of study
WSU’s online professional writing certificate develops the fundamental communication skills necessary for careers in grant writing, public relations, business communications, and technical writing.
Visit the DDP Career Services Center to make an appointment with the DDP career counselor to discuss other career options.

Once all courses are completed, students can download the form to apply for the Professional Writing Certificate here.
Required courses: (15 semester credits)
All courses are three credits.
All courses must be completed with a grade of “B” or better.
- Anth/For L 350 – Speech, Thought and Culture
- Engl 301 – Writing and Rhetorical Conventions (prerequisite: Engl 101 or Engl 105)
- Engl 355 – Multimedia Authoring: Exploring New Rhetorics
- Engl 402 – Technical and Professional Writing (prerequisite: Engl 101)
- Engl 498 – Internship
Note: Anth/For L 350 or Engl 301 must be taken first, and Engl 498 must be taken last.
